Getting lost in Fes

Of all the medinas we have visited Fes was the one we managed to get lost in the most, map and all. The riad we stayed in was owned by an expat Aussie and her Moroccan husband. Juliette made us really welcome and upgraded us TWICE. She supplied me with Marmite (English is okay) and Earl Grey at breakfast time and even treated us with bacon and eggs (Moroocan style) one morning. The map and directions for the medina weren't easy to follow and we did make a hash of it when we were trying to find a cafe she had recommended. We always managed to find our way home though and we did eventually find the cafe (on our third day). There were plenty of other places to find in the meantime. Here are the photos to prove it... don't forget to click on the photos to make them bigger.

The tannery. Largest in Morocco.

A smelly shop - soap, perfumes,

Moulay Idriss, on the way to Volubilis
Volubilis is 70km from Fes. Well preserved Roman ruins.

Found this Pasifika pattern on a tablet

We think this is a mill. No signs and map is in French.

A man on his ass. Awesome mosaics.

This was the main road into Volubilis

Borg Nord, The Arms Museum, was one of ten fortresses
that protected the old city.
